Pilar Vélez is the New Director of the DHUB Museums

As of Tuesday 1 May, Pilar Vélez is the new director of the DHUB museums (CeramicsMuseum, Textile and Clothing Museum, Museum of theDecorative Arts andGraphic Arts Museum). Pilar Vélez is taking over from Marta Montmany, who has recently retired.

Pilar Vélez wasdirector of Barcelona’sGraphic Arts Museum from 1986 to 1994. From 1995 until the present she wasdirector of the Museu Frederic Marès, a period during which the museum reaffirmed its standing as an internationalpoint of reference for sculpture and collectibles. In 2011 she completed the project of renovation and modernization commenced in 1996, providingthe museum with a public profile and with conditions of exhibition in accordance with both the demands of current museology and the needs of its exceptional holdings. At the same time, Pilar Vélez actively promoted new lines of research and publications of the museum’s fonds, as well as new interpretations of its collections from a contemporary perspective. Recently, the ACCA Catalan art critics’ association awarded one of its 2012 Prizes to the Museu Frederic Marèsfor its exemplary renovation project.

Marta Montmany is leaving her post. She took a degree in Sociology at the University of Paris and a Master’s in Ethnology from the University of Montpellier before commencing her career as curator of the Barcelona Ethnological Museum, and has subsequently held positions as Director of the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions, Head of the Technical Secretariat of Museums and Technical Director of the Centre for the Management of Museums and Cultural Heritage. In 1994 she was appointed Director of the Museum of Decorative Arts and subsequently took charge of the group of museums that make up the DHUB.
