Re-Make Manifesto
The designer and curator of Re-Make, Oscar Guayabero, has written a manifesto that explains the ideas behind the workshops, the world of design and sustainability in general. Here you can take a look at the complete manifesto or you can also take a look at his web page. (in Catalan and Spanish only)
We are immersed in a huge crisis, beyond the economic one: an energy crisis, an environmental crisis and a productive model crisis. The simple summary is this: Human activity generates an abundance of CO2, enough to make an ecological footprint. This footprint created, mostly by the Western world is far superior to that which the planet can absorb. This includes the energy necessary for the production of objects that we use, the energy to use them and the waste that remains when it has been used. Design is a variable that is profoundly implicated in the problems and possible solutions to the ecological footprint and we can no longer avoid the problem. As Bruce Mau said during his iniciate Massive Changes, «it's not about the world of design, but of the design of the world». To begin with, we have to incorporate the three r's of sustainability - Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle-, from the perspective of the project.
